OSX Leopard, iLife ‘07 and iWork ‘07 as Early as March?

Before you get too excited, realize this rumor comes to us by way of ThinkSecret, which has been glaringly, horrendously wrong before to the point where they have invoked Apple’s wrath (which sort of backfired on Apple, now that I think about it).

Anyway, read the ThinkSecret article, then join me in calling bullshit.

There’s nothing here besides some wishful thinking. I’d love for Leopard to come out and start eating some of Vista’s buzz (as little of it as there may be), but I don’t see that happening without Jobs getting in front of us again and showing us what couldn’t originally. While nobody really knows what the final Leopard package will have in it, we do know that we don’t have the full story yet. And I can’t see Leopard boxes on shelves until Jobs gets a chance in the limelight again to shove some “you like apples?” in Vista’s face.

And whatever happens, let’s not pull another OSX Tiger: make sure the quality is up to snuff, guys. Leopard has every chance to outshine Vista right now — especially seeing how Vista is getting some fairly vanilla reviews — so take your time and line up the shot.

What do you think about the rumor Jobs will be stepping down?
I’ve seen this one posted twice on different sites attributed to different sources. Options problems at Apple & Pixlar perhaps?

PIF — I haven’t heard that rumor at all recently, in fact. Quite some time ago, when he was fighting cancer, I heard it, but not recently.

The whole “options” thing will take a while to work out. It may be an embarrassment, but Jobs leaving wouldn’t change that and would, in my opinion, only compound the problem in terms of media perception – as well as damage the company, stock and stockholders. So why would he do it???
OT to this article, I just have this totally gut feeling that – aside from some minor (relative to a Leopard release) announcements or updated products, Apple is pretty much conceding this quarter. So I don’t see them releasing Leopard until the next quarter so the balance sheet can reflect the full impact in terms of profit jump. I suspect, though, a fairly early release. Like before the end of April but not much sooner. From that point on I think we’ll see a constant flow of products.
No knowledge, but my total guessing has seemed to be at least as accurate as most “rumor” sites!

“From that point on I think we’ll see a constant flow of products.” Like what? Apple isn’t really coming out with anything new, other than Leopard, until at least MacWorld next year. Sure there’s the iPhone…some time…for the (elite) US market only…in June.

I, for example, as someone who writes for a living, am not sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for Pages 3.

I like your closing, Jeff, demanding that Apple lines up before shooting Leopard out into the world. I’m looking forward to a lot of the features it will have, and maybe even getting a new MacBook as an excuse to exploit 64-bit. If I do that, I sure want it to shine…even though I get a nice educational discount :)

SteveP – It will *NOT* be in April. No one’s talking about how much difference in developmental finish there is between workstation and server. And face it… Apple will not be releasing workstation or server unless its on the same date and April anythingth is too soon.

Guys — Apple won’t be releasing until we see more of it. There’s still one milestone left before we know when we’ll see 10.5 released to the public.
