Vista Lazy: Won’t Wake Up and Get Out of Bed
I’m assuming this is just an early bug, something that will be squashed, because these days a modern OS should sleep and wake effortlessly. Shouldn’t even have to think about it.
For those not inclined to read TFA, the issue here is that Vista has “hideous wakeup support,” which is odd because the betas/CTPs I’ve played with have handled wakeup from “Deep Sleep” quite well. Not as nicely as OSX — which I still say has the best sleep/wake of any OS on the planet — but better than XP, which it should given how spotty XP’s wake behavior is.
But now, in the GA build of Vista that’s out there right now, there are big, big problems:
Throughout the beta, Deep Sleep in Windows Vista went great. It’s the default option (so long as it’s configured in the BIOS) when you click the shutdown button. It would put your computer in a low-power mode that recovered in a matter of 2 or 3 seconds, and didn’t crash! But in the final version of Windows Vista, something is very, very majorly wrong. On 6 of the 8 tested systems, recovering Windows Vista from a hibernate or Deep Sleep results in one of the following:
- When recovering from a hibernate: “Cannot find uxtheme.dll” appears whenever you attempt to run (almost) any program. No matter what you do, you can’t even run Task Manager. What’s worse, a restart doesn’t fix it, and because Windows Explorer also fails to launch with this error, you need to boot from the DVD and use System Restore – Safe Mode won’t work!
- Failure to establish a network connection. Everything looks OK, but you can’t connect to the internet. Your LAN signal will be there, but the internet just doesn’t work. You must restart to fix it.
- Poor performance: though Task Manager will show normal CPU load, some of the drivers (they don’t appear in TaskMan) will attempt to use 100% of the CPU, resulting in a very laggy PC. You need to restart to fix it.
- No DWM. For no reason, DWM just won’t re-appear. This happens on ATi and nVidia, with or without the latest official drivers from the companies themselves. Manually running “dwm.exe” doesn’t work, you need to restart to fix it.
- BSOD on recovery. This is usually caused by the video drivers, and may or may not indicate something wrong with the kernel itself.
- No sound. Vista goes mute. Nothing you can do about it, no way to revive it, you just have to restart and let the re-done sound-stack load-up the way it should.
Like I said before, this has to be some early bug that slipped though final system testing. Some seem to be related to ATI and nVidia driver issues, which means when these vendors refresh their drivers, a good number of these issues may disappear. Other problems are genuine bugs, according to Microsoft.
The good news is that since this problem is new (meaning it didn’t pre-exist before in the CTP builds), hopefully it’ll be easier to trace the change/source of the problem.
I don’t expect this to last long, because let’s face it: Vista’s a modern OS and should be able to handle sleep/wake functions as well as OSX. Who really turns their PCs off anymore, anyway? I haven’t turned my Mac off when I was done working since…well, forever. I always put it to sleep.
Technorati Tags: vista, microsoft, windows, osx, apple
With YDL I still can’t black the screen of my iMac as of the latest GA 4.1,, but that’s linux for ya.
But for a problem like this, which is, as far as I understand it, a significant selling point of Vista (new power management states) to have ’slipped through’ makes me worry, to the bottom of my boots, what other little errors have slipped through that will present the user with the BSOD!
Or, rather, it would if I were to come near a windows machine…
There is no way I will move to Vista for next year or so till MS has fixed all bugs, rats and all.
Muzzy — the general consensus is that waiting until SP1 is probably smart. Me, if I were a Windows guy I’d move now, because I’m stupid that way on account of being hard-wired to be an early adopter and all that.
Many are saying wait a bit, and that makes tons of sense from pretty much every angle.
getting a lack of sleep trying to diagnose the sleep, hybernate, power options wake on lan, nothing will get this thing to stay off while on … if that makes any cents$ yes microsoft does have issues xp functionality is flawless compared to vista… ill hold on to my cash a little longer and keep cracking…away :0
Putting my Vista PC into sleep seems to kill it dead. I’ve replaced motherboard, switched from Ati X1900 card to Nvidia 8800, moved from Pentium D to Core 2: once the PC has gone into sleep, it won’t wake up at all. No post. nothing. Clearing the CMOS didn’t work. FFS. Anyone else with this problem???
So. probably best not to install Vista yet then? Or should I encourage all my Apple sceptic friends to move to Vista to scare them off it? (Evil, I know, but fun!)
EY. same here, power remains to mobo and keyboard but wont wake. Ive just disabled the sleep and hibernate settings..
EY & Jonny – Kind of the same problem here. Alothugh mine will fully go into sleep, there is no way at all to wake it. I end up having to cut the power completely for 30 seconds before it will even think of switching back on, even by the power button.
We have a Vista machine here in our lab at work, and I just put it to sleep. I tried to wake it and it wouldn’t. I had to actually pull the plug, because for some reason holding the power button down on the unit wouldn’t work. Maybe it’s because it’s an old shitty Dell, I don’t know.
Regardless, this is a bummer. Who actually turns off his computer anymore?
EY: Your very strange problem of Vista sleep killing your PC terminally so that BIOS won’t even start even with cleared CMOS? Got it too. Did you ever fix it?
When I wake my system from sleep the CPU pegs at 100. This is a Core 2 Duo! When I can finally get task manager to run it doesn’t show any process using the time. Definitely OS/drivers.
I too am suffering the same fate of the BSOD after installing vista home premium(oem), in fact this ill thought and dare I say it ‘pre-release’ version requires microsoft to get back to the drawing board. Each time I leave this system it sleeps, only option turn off and back on, BSOD kernal errors, you name it ! The DVD drive I used to install the system, it too seems to have gone off somewhere, microsofts resolution, hack the Registry!http://support.microsoft.com/kb/320553 mobo is asus m2n-mx, proc am2 64 3000+, 1gb ram. graphics on board are nvidia nforce 430 chipset 6100
Yup. Something is very wrong here. I just disabled all sleepiness on this machine after having to power cycle several times.
NRFPT, IMHO
Hi hope someone can help, Kind of in a bind, PC – hp a730n
this is my pc at hp
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00196251&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=431078&lang=en
I installed Vista, everything great worked fine, changed power profile
(created a new one) monitor does not go off, computer does not sleep,
and disk always on, CPU max power… in attempt to bring up my overall
rating, which it did by .2
Several days later I found what maybe low power mode or like the sleep
mode to the right on the start menu, before the small menu for shut
down and restart etc.
Well I pressed it and everything faded out. moved mouse to start it
back up,
“nothing”. Pressed power switch, it would not even turn on the fan.
All that I see is the power supply flashing
I’ve unplugged the power, waited for flashing to stop, re plugged and
press
power on, nothing. I’ve unplugged power supply connectors to mother
board
I then get a solid light on the PS, but when plugged back it
blinks…..
I’m not the only one with this problem found a couple in devices group
I don’t have the
MediaDirect button as other person has to wake mine
example
found “power button”
I recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 6400 with windows vista already
installed. ever since the very first time i tried to turn it on the
power
button refuses to work correctly. when the computer is turned off
completely
and i attempt to turn it on by pressing the power button, the computer
does
nothing. no lights turn on, the screen does nothing. however, if i
then
press the Dell MediaDirect button on my notebook, the computer will
turn on
and go directly to the MedaDirect UI. since this does not actually
boot
windows, i then click on exit which turns off the computer. if i
press the
power button shortly after that the computer will finally turn on the
boot
windows.
How in the world is this happening? can anyone help? thanks
I normally sort out my own computer hardware and software problems and I’ve heard of Vista but if there appears to be a ‘bug’ with it – then I’ll wait until it gets it’s ‘go ahead’ status to be seen as a program which will work as well as can be expected.
EY and Ian. I put together a new test rig yesterday, installed Vista and it worked. I hibernated it last night and this morning the CPU fan starts to spin, the drives power up but nothing else. Initially I got 9 POST beeps, but now I’m not even getting them.

I’ve got an issue with the system clock stopping in Hibernation and Sleep mode. When I power up again the clock has set itself to some random time …. this might not seem all that bad but after a while web site certificates and auto updates stop because of the time difference. I HATE VISTA!!!!!!
I, too, keep putting Vista to sleep, but it’s in a coma. I did find that by moving the mouse around and waiting an interminable time when I come back to the machine, SOMETIMES it will wake up, and not always the whole screen.
I think it has something to do with the bios settings with keyboard and mouse power–maybe. I did try changing that, though, and no difference. Could be a combination of that and power settings elsewhere.
I have a core2duo also, and this is ridiculous. I might as well just shut it off every night, then turn it back on; it’s faster that way.
Did anybody come up with a reliable solution yet?
Jeff,
Did you check the BIOS? I had to monkey around with mine to get the Deep Sleep to work right. For whatever reason it wasn’t working right after the switch.
I must be one of the only people who still shuts down their computer at night! I recently did a clean install of vista on a reasonably new Dell and luckily for me I seem to have side-stepped a landmine.
Its an old habit of mine, but I just leave my computer to sort itself out. I have maintenance stuff scheduled to run at 1am and then have shutdown.exe run at 3am as long as everything has finished.
My BIOS is then set to turn on the computer again at 8am just as I am having to get up. By the time I reach my computer it is already up and running and fresh from a good nights sleep.
I suppose the reason for this is that I had heard, certainly about previous editions, that Windows should be restarted each day because it gets clogged up. Is this not true anymore, or was it always a myth?
it used to be true back in the old 9x and ME days. but with NT as the base for all the new windows, the problem isnt really around as much, you may have to do it once a week if you use your computer every day like me. I keep my computer on all day every day, i dont think i personally have ever shut it off with the intention of it being kept off. but i do try and reboot it about once a week. But after about a year of an install being on your computer and never being maintained it can make your system go to crap, and even a restart every day wont help.
Im getting same issues.. copmuter goes to sleep.. wont wake up.. im running Ultimate with Gig RAM 3500+ Amd and ATi x1600 Pro. If anyone knows how to solve this problem give us a hoy, otherwise im uninstalling vista.. its just a load of u kno what
Same issue here, my computer goes asleep and stays in a coma… HELP!!!
I had this problem as a beta tester and was informed by the Powers That Be @ MS that it would be fixed inRC1. That, sadly, did not happen. I am currently running XP Pro, Vista and Ubuntu Studio on the same machine. XP sleeps/wakes fine; however, Vista and Ubuntu both slip into a coma which points to an ACPI issue with these OS’s. I am currently attempting to track this down and will repost when/if I figure it out…
Has anybody had a problem with their vista when you wake it up from sleep mode the internet connection icon is visible but I cannot connect to it. The only way I can connect is to restart my computer.
I have a Compaq Presario V6000 running Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit.
any help would be greatly appreciated
thanks!
i have a problem i got a new windows vista and tried to hook it up and it says it is in hybird sleep mode how do i got it of so i can get my computer to load up for the 1st time
A simple fix. Microsoft can just rename the feature: comatoseness.
I have the same problem, I just Got a Acer Aspire E700 Quad core pentium, when I press the sleep button on the keyboard system powers down and nothing will wake it up. I have to unplug it from the wall wait a min. and plug it back in to get windows to reboot. I wasn’t sure if it was my computer or windows. How do I fix this….?
It should not have a destroy computer button!!!!!
With my PC Vista is trying to wakeup, I can see something displayed for a while but after that dark screen and lot of activity on the disk and nothing else, I have to power off and on again and get to the safe mode menu. I have the latest fixes for Vista so there is some improvement but it still doesn’t work
I have a far more severe problem on my Dell XPS 710 H2C. If left for more than a couple of hours, when it automatically hibernates and then sleeps, on my return it won’t wake up. All keyboard, mouse support etc is gone. I am left doing a hard reboot, my qyest for an answer continues (I have lost a ton of work this way… the wife calls me for dinner, I get sidetracked, when I get back I have an unconcious PC to contend with).
I have Vista running on a Toshiba laptop. When I close the lid at night it goes to sleep, but when I try to wake it up in the morning, nothing happens. I end up cutting it off manually, but when it boots up none of my videos or mp3s will play. The sound from online things such as YouTube or MySpace will not play. This has only happened twice and I haven’t found a solution– I thought *I* was the problem so I booted it from the restore disc to out-of-the-box condition, and it did it again last night. Sigh.
I also get the same problem, when i sleep my computer, it won’t wake up. have to remove the memory and turn it on then turn it off again and put back the memory before it works again.
LOL..so far my comp sleeps and wakes up with vista. BUT IT ONLY DOES IT ONCE! after waking up once, trying to put it to sleep again will put it in a coma with hard disks running..wierd.. i like vista tho
just experimented with hibernation nd it works everytime…takes about 3 times as long (6 seconds) but o well. this probem is so random in nature i have my doubts of a quick fix…
so far I seem to be the only one with this problem I’m gonna explain to you.
I SHUT DOWN (not hibernate) my computer. (a dell didmension E521 wiht Vista Business on it).
When i try to boot my comp, it displays a Dell screen with a loading bar, so far so good. Then it gets tricky. It shows a white screen, then a red, a green, a blue and a black screen over and over and over. If I’m lucky it’ll eventually boot, but if it shows the sequence a third time I might as well turn of the comp, pull the power out and plug it back, insert the repair disk (I hate repairdisks) and try to boot with cdrom support. Once it asks me to install vista or try to repair i turn the comp back off, boot again and then it usually works. Except in the morning, then nothing helps.
I *still* have this issue with Vista on my desktop computers and laptop. What’s hilarious, of course, is that Windows Server 2008 on these PCs sleeps and wakes up just fine. So my *server* partitions works fine, while my desktop partitions become comatose.
Come on Microsoft, please figure it out. It’s been almost a year since RTM, and this is still an issue.
Ran into “sleep” problem with Toshiba Satellite w/Vista premium. When I shut it down normally, it went to sleep/hibernate on its own and would not wake up. Disconnecting power supply did no good. Removed and reinstalled battery pack and machine came back. Toshiba tech supports’ solution was to search for system “updates”. I disabled sleep/hibernate instead.
You what? You didn’t “expect it to last long”??
Let me see, today is october 6th 2007 and the problem still exist. and nothing, absolutely nothing has been done about it. I have p3k p35 and nvidia 8800 and whenever i go to hibernate, i can’t wake up with my overly expensive vista ultimate. screw you microsoft.
same problem here. vista ultimate it won’t wake up. think of all the power that could be saved in the last year just by getting this issue fixed.
This is total BS! Brand new comp, Vista Ultimate, I put it into sleep thinking I will do the right thing (I usually never sleep or turn off my comps) and then I go to start it and nothing. The thing doesn’t even post! Microsoft should be ashamed of this crap and refund our $$ for this os. What highway robbery!
*Sigh* Me too, folks. Me too.
My Acer E700 dual core went to sleep last night when I was in the middle of a project – completely random, didn’t press ‘hibernate’ or whatever – and hasn’t woken up since. The hard drive is running (fans are going, etc.), but the screen has no signal or anything.
I’m completey stumped, not being a technical whizz to start with.
Ok, i recently got a brand new computer, i bought all the parts seperately, and assembled it. it worked so perfectly, it has a 2.4GHz Quad-Core processor, 4GB RAM, and a Home Premium Vista. Like i said i worked fine, untill i experimented with the sleep mode. I put it to sleep – the orange button, on the bottom right, everything fades, but my fans are still running, and it seems like my computer is on, but the screen doesnt display anything
So, i just pulled the plug, since turning off the power button, or pressing the restart button wouldnt make my pc boot into windows. i turned off the main power. Now by the looks of it, my pc is still sleeping every time i try to turn it on, the screen just wont display anything – after it boots, i.e. the greenish dots run across the screen when vista is loading, the screen just turns off, and nothing will work, and i dont know how to make it wake up again. The safe mode works, i tried system restore, to yesterday, when my pc worked perfectly fine, and tried running the windows normally after that, and it still wont wake up. Please, somebody help, because i do not know what to do anymore…..
Basically, your friends at Microsoft have given the government the Ultimate tool against terror. Now that Vista is here, authorities can get in the back door of any terrorist’s PC with little effort, to make sure they’re not planning any Jumbo Jet Hi Jacking in the near future. We have also offered this functionality to record labels, movie studios and software vendors so that they can bust naughty people.
Of course we folks at Microsoft realise that this functionality may collect an untoward amount of negative response from Home and Business users so we designed a little known feature into the system, “Stealthy”, which means the government agent has to wait until your computer has dozed off before it allows them access. This prevents the user from getting twitchy or panicking as a result of noticing strange things, that they are not instigating, happening on the screen in front of them.
Unfortunately, we were unable to run these programs in the pre-release versions because we didn’t want anyone to know what we were up to, we had to keep this quiet or there could have been an uproar among do-gooders, civil libertarians, conspiracy theorists and the like.
So now when your Vista goes down on you (sucks), you can relax secure in the knowledge that Microsoft and your government agencies are making the world a safer place.
Note, this is not real, this is a joke.
“these days a modern OS should sleep and wake effortlessly”
There’s your problem. Windows is not and never has been a modern operating system.
After some time,
An Os will be based on the browser.. Everything will be customized.. we wont be bound by limits of buying OS and stuff.
I read all of the posts here. I’m one of the guys who cannot get out of sleep mode. I sure hope that somebody has found a solution to this. My new computer is bricked. Nothing that I’ve tried so far will pull it out of the coma.
If you have found something that works, please post it.l
Hi all, i have same problem , i baught a brand new Lenovo Thinkpad R61i laptop a week ago and when i put it to sleep mode it won’t wake up i tried but no use , and finally i force it to shut down by keep the power button pressed till it shuts down> what could be the solution …
Same problem here – Vista just won’t wake up at all, prompting a reboot and then the variety of egocentric messages telling me that “I” didn’t shut the computer down properly. Fuck you, MS.
I had the same problem. what worked for me was to make sure that I put the computer to sleep before putting the screen to sleep.
If since changing the sleep sequence seems to work fine.
microsoft sux the big one i had a girl at my office bring in her laptop for me to fix and it’s dead as door nails. went to sleep and never woke up. i tried everything and it’s just dead. bill gates is a moron for trying to rush out vista cause he new leopard was coming out. everyone get Apple
hmm, interesting…
You see, I have Vista Home Premium running on my now 7 year old Dell Dimension 4100 (with the original P III still inside), and almost everytime it went to sleep, it would wakeup but then will immediately stop responding and I have to push that dreaded reset button on the PC tower. But, when I was beta testing Ultimate on it, it would always wakeup like it should. I thought that it did this because, well, it’s a 7 year old computer, but I guess it doesn’t matter how old the computer is. However, I have a fairly new Dell Inspiron B130 laptop running Ultimate and it too wakes up like it should, no problems at all.
Perhaps the bug is isolated in only certain editions of Vista like Home Premium but not Ultimate?
“Failure to establish a network connection. Everything looks OK, but you can’t connect to the internet. Your LAN signal will be there, but the internet just doesn’t work. You must restart to fix it.”
This is the only one I’ve had trouble with but only a few times. The sleep problem hasn’t happened yet.
P.S. I’m the only one with sleep problems. 4.30am & wide awake for the last 2 hours.
i recently spoke to a rep of gateway pc about vista not waking out of sleep mode , and they told me that this is a microsoft vista problem and that they are working on a fix but for now this is solution , go to control panel -power options and check never turn off for monitor and pc also go to advance and harddisk and check never turn off harddisk . you can turn off monitor manually but never turn off your pc using power button vista issues onlike xp .
My HP that is a week old $3500.00 does this same thing goes into sleep, standby or hibernate will not awake – It was down for 48 hours once –
I am trying to get it back as they want me to ship in in- Seems sad to ship a brand new computer that should have been configured to work this way as this is a known issue with Vista Ultimate.
;(
MIne too. All HP can tell me is to disable sleep in the power management options
Here it is Feb, 2008 and the problems is still here..what gives?
Bought a brand new Gateway GT5630E, Upgraded to 4 Gigs of RAM
Nothing else done. Win Vista Home Premium
System hangs up..after i walk away, after a few minutes.
I come back and monitor is off. I can hear a noise like its trying to turn on the monitor, wakeup. Nothing I do wakes it up.
I turn it off and then on..it boots up but I can’t run
control panel, can’t run personalize to change settings on screen saver, wallpaper, etc
Can’t run any games from the games folder.
Only solution is to reboot, go to F8 and do a restore!
But do a restore 2-20 times daily? I use the ‘puter all day long trading.
I just got a GT5630E – the same problems, I even updated all of my drivers and my bios, I can’t connect to wireless too beyond all of the problems mentioned above. I even put 4 gigs of ram in too
Vista sucks, my decade old 800 Mhz PIII SMOKES this Quadcore running Vista. I hope I can get Windows server 2003 or XP 64 on it before the 30 day return date!
I’m not looking for a fix as I don’t mind loosing the sleep feature from my PC. However my problem is I put Vista into sleep and it won’t boot up again. I have power cycled but this does not seem to have helped. Not even bios will come up when i turn the power on. When I turn the computer on it simply beeps around every two seconds, nothing is displayed on the screen. Any advice on how to start up Vista again would be much appreciated.
Having the same problem here, computer woke up from sleep, had no sound so I shut it off.
Now it won’t post or anything. No bios, no beeps. Fans work and it sounds like it is on but I can’t do anything with it. I have tried reseating the ram and everything, but no go.
The monitor always acts as if it’s not plugged in. This is really frustrating. Plox help.
Bought Dell XPS/M1530 Laptop w/Vista Home Premium delivered on 28th June 2008 For some unknown reason, went into Hibernation and would not come out. Got onto Dell Tech. Support and eventually had to phone o800 No. Believe Iwas transferred to good old USA where I was told it was Software problem and asked if I would like it sorted for the sum of $119 then told as from UK. would only be £64. Said since all this less than 2 weeks old, what about my warrenty and why should I pay this money. Not on.
Spent whole day on Blogg pages and noted all similar problems from many people. Tried everything as I had to revert back to my 8 year old Compaq Presario w/Windows Professional. Can’t remember how I managed to get it back up, but I think I F8′t it and held down on/off switch and got black screen up with choices of things to do. Got into Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool and picked Checking for Memory Problems. Took a few minutes for this to run and it stated that Windows willk restart the computer automatically as there was no memory problems.
Haven’t turned it off yet as one never knows, may be back to same problem. What a rip off being asked to pay for Software Support when the problem is with Microsoft Vista.
I have NEVER had computer problems until I had to get a pee cee. Yes, I am an old school MACaddict.
This new problem is very disturbing, I’ve been dealing with the no wakey wake here & there on my dell dimension e521, however, it has apparently committed suicide a year and a day after it was supposedly shipped out. I unplugged everything a gazillion times and all I get is a hideous orange power light blaring along with an obnoxious fan.
I called dell-they suck ass & had me reseat my cd/dvd-rw drive twice & it still would not recognize it, when I calmed down after about a month, I called again & the guy fixed it in a few minitues-anyway, they are giving me shit about warranty being up, when in fact, it is supposed to start the day you receive it. I hate them with every cell in my body. I would love to shove the fucking tower straight up that bitch’s ass, acting as if she’s going to get the money for tech support. Fuck off with all that placating bullshit she was saying. No, you dellwhore, you have NO idea how I feel. That’s right. I said that.
I can’t wait to get a new MAC! The one I’m using is the first 12″ white ibook & it still kicks that gay pee cee’s ass.
So, does anyone know how to fix this, or do I have to actually call those people again. I am usually very nice, I just do not like being lied to & bullied by large corp.
Otherwise, I’m envisioning the scene from Office Space where they kill the fax/copy thingy and I’m singing, “Damn it feels good to be a……” That’s the final solution.
JIC you’d rather email me, use antieverything6@yahoo.com
thankyouverymuch >:)
computer came out of it’s coma a few days later. and guess what? yep. i am back on my trusty mac. fuck dell & fuck windows. they both suck ass.
Hi Guys – I have just joined the clan my brand new Vista PC has just gone comatose
well, since no one here has helped me, when i find something out, i’ll post it for you. if you get any help bc yours is still under warranty (mine crapped out the day after they said it was up, which was date of online purchase, however, it’s supposed to be from date of receipt) please enlighten me before my head explodes.
This Worked for Me!
After reading post after post of people experiencing the same Vista Sleep – no wake up issue – I was really sad. Just got a new Compaq Presario running Vista today for the kids. One of the bonuses was upgrading to a PC that WOULD sleep!
Anyway, in despair I clicked around and here’s what fixed it (for now anyway)
Go to Control Panel
System Maintenance
Power Options
Click on “Change Advanced Power Settings”
Expand +Sleep
Expand +Allow Hybrid Sleep
Change this to “OFF”
I have no idea what Hybrid Sleep is – really don’t want to know. All I know is that now when you put the PC to sleep – the thing sleeps and the power button changes to the expected orange color.
I can wake the PC up by pushing the sleep button or by pressing any key. The mouse doesn’t seem to wake it up (its a tablet so maybe there’s a thing going on there). But I can live with that compromise.
Hope this helps someone else!
Compaq Presario with Windows Vista (Home Premium?) — probably. I just tried what Wunderklicken suggested, but Hybrid Sleep wasn’t already active on my computer, and I’m still having trouble with not waking it out of sleep mode. Is it possible that my laptop is overheating and getting cranky? In the year that I’ve had this computer, I haven’t had a problem waking it out of sleep until the past week, which is why I really wonder if it’s just a heating issue.
but sex
I have sleep problems with Dell Studio 540. I have 2 monitors connected to the video card. When I move mouse or hit key on keyboard, the left monitor has a multitude of small width vertical bars while the right monitor is blank. Dell Blows and so does Microsoft.
My box is doing some crazy shit.
Same sleep problems mentioned here.
When it refuses to wake, I power button reboot. Then I get “Windows Could Not Start…Load last know config” etc.
Or I get a CMOS checksum error.
Sometimes it starts to boot and my monitor goes on an acid trip with the display scrambled.
I’ve reset CMOS, changed the MB battery, reinstalled the whole fucking OS, fucked with the BIOS jumper…and same bullshit.
Sometimes it fucks with me and works fine for 2 or 3 days.
I’ve spent a month of my life chasing down this shit.
Fuck Vista. Fuck MS.
I’d like to jam my fucking Vista install CD up Bill Gates’ asshole and choke him with a firewire cable until HE goes to sleep. And then I’d Tea-Bag him.
And a final fuck-out to those mouthy tech support cunts we have to deal with.
I’ll be getting a MAC next year.
